Social Events 2011/12.
The last season kicked off with a great attendance to the club day, with live music and a BBQ working perfectly in the warm late summer weather. Unfortunately due to a lack of interest and availability the cheese and wine evening just before the Christmas break did not go ahead.
The annual quiz in February saw eight teams turnout to compete for quiz champions, with ‘The same as last year’ looking like favourites, however the emergence of a men’s 1st XI team and a last minute ringer spec 2nd XI team saw first place well contended for. ‘Clueless’ taking a clear win in the end; even with Gordon Scott dropping points on the Geography round!
March saw the Dinner and Dance held again at the Saffron Hotel with a record attendance of 100+ club members. It was great success, running to plan and incident free!
May saw 72 club members travel down to the Olympic park to watch team GB play in the Visa Invitational tournament. Unfortunately GB only drew 2-2 with Austrailia and failed to get into the final, but the atmosphere was great and it was brilliant to have such a large group from the club out and about.
Finally the season wrapped up with a very well attended Bailey Cup mixed 7’s tournament. Saffron Walden O21s winning the cup and Bishops Stortford the plate. This has set the scene for the social summer hockey ahead.
2012/13 Season
- Club Day – 1st September. Registration, fun training and games during the day (ladies then mens) as normal. Followed by live music, bbq and drinks in the clubhouse in the evening; Make sure you put the date in your diary!
- Beer and Bingo? Cheese and Wine? One of these could feature this side of Christmas.
- Mixed Hockey on Boxing Day and New Years day
- Annual quiz in Early Feb
- Dinner and Dance – A return to the Golf Club to pencil in for the 1st March!!
- Presidents Day – April
- Bailey Cup - May
