It is a requirement of Saffron Walden Hockey Club that all members are aware of their responsibilities in maintaining the good name of the club.

Club members are required to :
not bring the good name of the club into disrepute
adhere to Hockey Association and League rules
observe discipline and acceptance of umpires decisions on the field of play
apologise to the umpire after the game for any dissent or carded offence
pay monies owed to the club by the date due

Club Captains are required to : 
maintain the discipline and good behaviour of team members
report both verbally and in writing to the Club Chairman within 48 hours any significant disciplinary offence that has occured. 
This to include :
red cards
significant yellow card offences
any significant offence not reported by the umpires indiscipline off the field of play

The Club Chairman will refer any report of indiscipline to a Disciplinary Committee set up by the General Committee. The Disciplinary Committee will decide on any disciplinary action required and this will be communicated by the Club Chairman to the player(s) involved. The player has a right of appeal to the General Committee.

This Code of Conduct forms part of the Club Rules.


1. The Club opposes all forms of discrimination and will actively encourage, promote and develop hockey amongst all sections of the community it serves. The Club undertakes to ensure that ‘Sport Equity’ (i.e. fairness) is practised. This includes providing opportunities for young people, black and ethnic groups, women and people with disabilities at a level appropriate to their needs and aspirations.

2. The Club has adopted Child Protection to ensure that the welfare and safety of children in the Club’s care or custody is always the primary consideration. The Club is committed to provide an environment where children can learn about, parrticipate in and enjoy hockey free from harassment or abuse.

3. The Club’s colours will be purple shirts with amber trim, navy shorts/skirts and amber hose.

4. The Club shall play under the rules of England Hockey Limited and shall be affiliated to Cambridgeshire Hockey.

5. Club management will be entrusted to the General Committee consisting of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Ladies' Club Captain, Men's Club Captain Junior Section Representative, plus the Chairman of each of the other sub committees .

6. The General Committee will have the power to conduct all club business, other than those mentioned in these Rules, and will establish such committees or sub-committees as it sees fit, co-opting members and/or advisors to ensure the club’s growth and prosperity.

7. The date of the Annual General Meeting will be decided by the General Committee and 14 days notice will be given of the Meeting by the Secretary in writing to each member. The financial statements, Chairman’s Report and the subscription and match fee levels will be approved at the Meeting. The Officers of the Club will be elected annually at the Meeting.

8. An Extraordinary General meeting will be called, within one month, on a requisition signed by at least six members of the Club or at the request of the Commitee. Two weeks notice of such a meeting will be given to members.

9. Subscriptions must be paid by 31st October each year. Only 
members who have paid their subscriptions by the due date will be eligble for matches after that date. New members will pay their subscriptions within one month of joining.

10. Members owing arrears of match fees from three consecutive 
matches will not be eligible to play.

11. The Club is committed to the development of individual and team skills at all ages and levels of ability. The Club will ensure that each season it fulfils this commitment with adequate 
competitive fixtures and coaching/training sessions available to all members.

12. Unsatisfactory conduct of any members will be dealt with by the General Committee with resignation or disciplinary action as the Committee decides.

13. Disciplinary matters arising from conduct on the field of play will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee. Members of the Disciplinary Committee will be appointed by the General Committee and shall act within the Club’s disciplinary code.

14. No alterations will be made to these Rules except at a General Meeting of members.

15. A full copy of the Club Rules will be issued to every member.
